GIF frame extractor: what this tool does
Inspect an animation one frame at a time and save the exact picture you need. The frame slider displays a complete composited image, including updates inherited from previous frames. Download the selected PNG or keep a sequence in a numbered ZIP when you need several moments.
How to use GIF frame extractor
- Open a GIF and move the frame slider or use its arrow keys.
- Choose the selected frame or the full sequence, with an optional sampling interval.
- Export the PNG or ZIP. Frame timing is included with sequence downloads.
Quality, timing and file size
The selected PNG is a still image. If you need a playable animation, use the GIF editor instead. Full-frame extraction includes alpha transparency and avoids another GIF palette reduction, but an archive of PNGs can use more storage than the compressed source. Keep frame counts moderate on mobile devices.
Processing happens in a browser worker, and your files are not uploaded. Start with a short animation on mobile. The tool checks file size, frame count and decoded pixels before editing; large or damaged files receive an error with a way to retry. You can cancel a running export and keep your source selection. The preview is an editing aid; download and inspect the result in its final destination because players can handle very short frame delays differently.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose a precise frame?
Use the frame slider, its arrow keys, or the selected-frame number. The preview changes to the exact frame that will be exported.
Can I save all frames?
Yes. Choose the ZIP option. Every numbered PNG is a full composited frame, and a JSON manifest records its order and delay.
Will transparent areas remain transparent?
Yes. PNG output keeps transparent pixels from the rendered GIF frame instead of filling them with a forced background color.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes, in a current browser with local canvas and worker support. Mobile budgets are lower to protect memory. Choose shorter, smaller animations, and use a desktop for a larger sequence.
Does this tool upload my files?
No. Image decoding and export run on your device. This website uses analytics for page visits and tool events, but filenames, source pixels and generated frames are not sent as analytics events.
