GIF editor: what this tool does
Make a focused set of edits to an existing GIF without opening a full video suite. Combine a crop with new output dimensions, keep a shorter time range, rotate the canvas or reverse playback. Source frames remain available for scrubbing while the output preview reflects the active settings.
How to use GIF editor
- Open a GIF and inspect its frames and duration.
- Choose a crop, dimensions, time range, speed and rotation. Switch Reverse on if you want the frames played backward.
- Preview several frames, export the edited GIF and download the result.
Quality, timing and file size
Edits are applied in a consistent order: select the time interval, optionally skip or reverse frames, crop and resize, then rotate and encode. Rotation by a quarter turn swaps the final width and height. A GIF supports a limited palette and one-bit transparency; re-encoding can change subtle gradients. For one simple task, the dedicated resizer or cropper offers a smaller set of controls.
Processing happens in a browser worker, and your files are not uploaded. Start with a short animation on mobile. The tool checks file size, frame count and decoded pixels before editing; large or damaged files receive an error with a way to retry. You can cancel a running export and keep your source selection. The preview is an editing aid; download and inspect the result in its final destination because players can handle very short frame delays differently.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add text or stickers?
Not in this version. This editor focuses on crop, size, time, speed, rotation and reversal. It does not advertise text overlays or compositing features it cannot export.
Will edits change my original file?
No. The selected file is read into a browser worker and the result is downloaded separately. Closing the page clears the session.
Can I combine several edits?
Yes. The output preview and summary reflect the settings together, including rotated dimensions and speed-adjusted duration.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes, in a current browser with local canvas and worker support. Mobile budgets are lower to protect memory. Choose shorter, smaller animations, and use a desktop for a larger sequence.
Does this tool upload my files?
No. Image decoding and export run on your device. This website uses analytics for page visits and tool events, but filenames, source pixels and generated frames are not sent as analytics events.
